• The new atrium expansion to the existing Chemistry building creates a new entry portal to the University and announces Wayne State's commitment to Science and the surrounding community.
• The large glass wall of the atrium addition is pierced by an ellipse shaped auditorium and stone clad office area which work together to create an intimately scaled entry.
• Stone, terrazzo, wood and a tubular steel structure combine to create a warm, progressive environment for this new entry space for the renovated Chemistry facility.
• A curving metal seat along the sloped wall of the new auditorium becomes a comfortable social setting for students waiting for class.
• Lab environments are enhanced by a highly ordered integration of elements and transparency to adjacent support spaces.
• Specialized fume hoods are an important part of the Research environment.
• A variety of student needs are accommodated in these colorful support spaces visually linked to the adjacent lab spaces.
