  • Multi-Media and Technology. The new Wallis Annenberg Hall provides state-of-the-art media technology within an open multi-story collaborative framework that encourages sharing among communication and journalism faculty, students, and scholars.


  • Collegiate gothic, a natural extension of the Collegiate Romanesque style of the historic USC buildings.
  • The exterior expression is derived from the language of Collegiate Gothic architecture from other prestigious institutions including Cambridge, Harvard and Yale Universities.
  • Much of the interior glazing is colored and patterned to referencing stained glass common to the gothic era, while providing privacy to programmed spaces.
  • To support the free-flowing learning concept, a central atrium is utilized as a multi-level gathering space to connect 5 floors meanwhile provides a distinct identity for this new building.
  • Zones outside traditional learning spaces allow for serendipitous encounters and a free exchange of ideas.
  • A significant change in pedagogy over the last 10 years reflects a focus on learning vs. teaching. Flexibility is key. There are learning spaces for individuals, small groups and large groups. Some spaces have moveable walls to accommodate different sized groups.
  • Furniture is movable and a variety of types enables students to engage one another based on preference.
  • Media Center with workstations and feature assignment desk, and broadcast control room along the back wall.
