UNCG Campus Recreation

  • The challenge confronted was the blending of old and new to achieve harmony with the campus’ historic surrounds while molding the facilities into one aesthetic yet functional complex.
  • Exterior view of Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance (HPRED) Complex - The 228,000 s.f. project called for total renovation of two outdated and overextended gymnasium buildings, and expanding them with new spectator gymnasium, intramural sports gymnasium, atrium, office, and aquatics facilities.
  • Built in 1923, Rosenthal Pool is located on the second floor of the Health and Human Performance (HHP) Building.
  • The pool has six lanes for lap swimming and a shallow end.
  • The 74,000 sf Rosenthal Gymnasium, constructed in 1923, was also gutted and completely retrofitted to house the School of Dance and a NCAA pool.
  • The Coleman Gymnasium, built originally in 1952, received a new exterior skin and windows; its 33,000 sq ft. interiors was transformed to house UNC-G Sports Medicine Program.
  • This intramural sports gymnasium is a three-story facility that enables the University to expand its physical education degree programs and meet the growing trend to open recreation and physical fitness
