Services: Executive Architectural Services (in association with Barton Phelps), Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
Project Description: Harley Ellis Devereaux, in association with Barton Phelps & Associates, was commissioned by long time client Thacher School to provide executive architectural and engineering services for the new performing arts and commons buildings. A new 453 seat auditorium with and orchestra pit and an exposed steel roof structure with a center cross aisle allowing for a more intimate seating plan for smaller audiences. The building is approximately 16,000 SF with Dance and Music Rehearsal areas located behind the stage and a separately located control booth. The Arts Building takes advantage of the natural sloping landscape and integrates the dressing, storage rooms and other audio/visual support spaces below grade in a lower level. On site parking is handled by the many on site lots on the Thacher campus, but handicapped areas are provided for immediately adjacent to the building. A loading dock has been located to assist in transporting scenes and equipment into the building. Support facilities are located in an adjacent building housing an alumni room, a student lounge, auditorium rest rooms, and the campus mail center.
