  • The renovation and expansion was planned with four phases, ensuring the ED of enough patient treatment rooms to handle the expected volume of patients at any point in the renovation, thus limiting the impact on current operations.
  • The renovation separates the walk-in traffic from ambulance traffic, allowing patients to move freely into the waiting and triage area. The ED is separated into three large treatment areas. One area is split between pediatric and express care patients. The remaining treatment areas serve emergency and resuscitation patients.
  • The master plan relocation of Radiology allows the Emergency Department to double in size to almost 50,000 square feet to accommodate 66 patients in private treatment rooms. This expansion allows St. John to accommodate over 100,000 patients yearly.
  • One grouping of 22 exam rooms has the ability to handle a mass infectious isolation incident by going to 100% exhaust. Each of the treatment bays has been designed with maximum visibility of patients while ensuring privacy.
