The Library has achieved LEED Gold certification.


  • Harley Ellis Devereaux was the executive architect for this 21,500-square-foot library designed by Johnson Favaro.
  • Harley Ellis Devereaux designed the double facade for heat recovery system and reduction in maintenance costs. Harley Ellis Devereaux's mechanical engineers played a major role in the finalization of the design of the double glazed exterior by fully enclosing it and treating it as an insulating air plenum.
  • The library has the first Automatic Book-Sorting Machine in the County of Los Angeles Public Library system.
  • The taut glass exterior contrast with the welcoming warmth of the quarter sawn Douglas fir wood-lined interior consisting of an undulating ceiling, cascading stair and sculptural reception desk.
  • The Children's Area includes an open reading space for families.
  • With capacity for 100, the meeting area is the perfect space for small gatherings and includes a state-of-the-art audiovisual system with remote touch panel controls and a kitchen.
  • An interactive learning wall, 4-early literacy computers and an additional 8 children's access computers complete the Children's Area.
  • Panoramic ocean views are a key feature in the new library.
  • The adult reading area offers a tranquil environment for adult patrons with its fireplace and ocean views.
  • View of the second floor reading area which overlooks the street below and the horizon of the Pacific Ocean beyond.
  • The program also included associated site improvements, including access ramps, walkways, landscaping and underground facilities.
