PROJECT DESCRIPTION: El Monte is one of the older, established suburban communities just to the east of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley. Over the last decade, The El Monte City School District has undertaken a comprehensive bond campaign through Proposition J first to develop a comprehensive Facilities Master Plan and then to renew and expand its sixteen school sites. We were hired to refine the master plan, renovate existing facilities and plan two story classroom additions for Wright and Le Gore Elementary Schools under this program. The two story wings added at each site provide contemporary classrooms with enhanced day lighting, natural ventilation capability and integrated lighting controls. Included in these additions are new library/media centers and computer labs. The projects share similar planning principals but differentiated design features as a contextual response to the existing campus architecture of each site.
