Southfield, Michigan

New Student Services Facility

Info

  • Student Commons. The A. Alfred Taubman Student Services Center creates a central place on campus for all student services, providing a welcoming destination point offering academic and social networking.

  • Overlooking the university’s main outdoor gathering space, a great, curving “picture window” engages the campus environment and offers views of its active interior functions to all passersby.
  • Linked by strong site planning geometries using axis and nodal points, the building helps define the new campus space by knitting existing buildings together to give a sense of place.
  • Festive colors and textures coupled with sophisticated lighting and interior accessories engage students and staff in refreshingly different ways.
  • The planned interplay of passive study spaces with meeting and reception spaces make for interesting encounters and interactions that can lead to new ideas and new relationships.
  • A soaring light-filled lobby space, filled with lively functions and stimulating architectural elements, becomes the university’s first and primary “family room” for all to gather and use.
  • A peak of glowing glass signals that this building is the center of student life on campus.
