Info

Lake Street Studios achieved the results that affordable housing advocates are hoping for when investing in affordable housing.

  • Working within a standard color palette, and drawing from the surrounding context, the elevations feature a composition of white and blues with a warm copper accent which underscores the masonry of the adjacent surrounding buildings.
  • Transit Analysis: Pedestrian movement, mass transit, auto traffic, and the nearby Chicago River.
  • Harley Ellis Devereaux designed the nine-and-a-half-story facility to respond contextually to the dynamic transit systems that surround the site. The design expresses this in the elevations of the building, which balance movement and stillness in response to each public exposure.
  • The partial 10th floor provides a small reading/library room and a 2,200 sf habitable vegetative roof terrace. The second floor contains a multi-purpose room and a centralized laundry room for the residents.
  • 61 micro units
  • Interior image of a 300-square-foot unit.
  • Due to the narrowness of the lot, only 30’ wide, the new building was built lot line to lot line. Five parking spaces (including one handicap) is located off the alley on the east side of the building.
  • Lake Street Studios at dusk.
