  • The Fine Arts Building at the University of California, Riverside addresses a complex program and a gateway site. It establishes a new building typology which signifies UCR’s commitment to the advancement of the arts into the 21st Century.
  • The Building Committee’s vision of a building “to put UCR on the map” was one of the important driving forces behind the development of the design. The gateway site enhanced by a pedestrian Fine Arts mall on its East provides the base for the building.

  • Dance Rehersal Space - The project incorporates the department of theater, studio art, dance, music, and art history in a complex whose mission is the encouragement of the interactive collaboration of those disciplines.
  • Studio Theater - Opportunities for “cross-pollination” was initiated in the space programming with shared facilities, and carried through in the design with tailored adjacencies and various scale meeting, performance and installation spaces both indoors and outdoors.
  • Performance Lab - The building assists in the celebration of the performance and installation of art by providing many sites of plan backdrops of walls and platforms.
