Firm Description: Charles H. Kim New Elementary School is a showcase school for the Los Angeles Unified School District. This project is one of the first schools to seek sustainable design certification using the new California Collaborative for High-Performance Schools (CHPS) design criteria, and received CHPS Certification. Charles H. Kim New Elementary School is designed to demonstrate the potential for sustainable, high-performance school design under CHPS. It received 48 points on the CHPS Rating Scorecard for High Performance, 20 points greater than the minimum required for CHPS certification. Charles H. Kim New Elementary School excels in energy performance, achieving energy savings 33% greater than required by the State of California’s Title 24 requirements.
