Building Los Angeles

  • 5-OH is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles on the edge of the financial district and overlooking Pershing Square.
  • Multiple development scenarios were considered for the site to balance the form-based requirements of its civic location with the developer’s need to balance a proforma.
  • The illustrated concept combined a 24-story Type I tower along the 5th Street edge with a 7-story mid-rise building, both sharing a common podium. Some 615 apartments are nearly evenly distributed between the two building types. Both buildings sit above a semi-subterranean parking garage, with room for 657 automobiles and 624 bicycles.
  • The language of the tower combines glass and concrete like the neighboring modern office buildings, while making deliberate reference to historic cues prevalent in the neighborhood, such as a pronounced plinth level, a regular grid of punched openings in a thick wall, and elaborate cornice lines.
  • Both buildings would sit above a semi-subterranean parking garage, with room for 657 automobiles and 624 bicycles.
