Village of Hope Breaks Ground

For homeless individuals and families in Gary, Indiana, Village of Hope will be a welcomed safe haven.

The three-story, 40-unit permanent supportive housing development, created by Sojourner Truth House and TWG Development, will provide a safe living environment for chronically homeless individuals and families in Lake County, Indiana.

HED designed the building with a focus on creating an image of home.  Each unit has its own identity and includes a small balcony overlooking a gated courtyard --- providing residents with a small area of outdoor space to call their own.  A system of varied colors in public corridors and common spaces will enhance residents' understanding and navigation of the facility.

The community space on the ground floor level will act as a resource center for residents and the local community and will provide counseling, parenting classes and nutrition services.

Village of Hope broke ground on April 25 and is scheduled to be completed in 2017.
