HED to sponsor Enterprise Community Partners’ Affordable Housing Design Leadership Institute

Enterprise Community Partners’ Affordable Housing Design Leadership Institute (AHDLI) brings together leaders at the forefront of community development in a forum focused on innovation and best practices in community design. With over sixty leading design and development alumni, AHDLI is the pre-eminent laboratory for innovation, showcasing exceptional design in affordable housing. Hosted in partnership with the City of Detroit, the seventh annual Institute is on July 12th-14th, 2016 at

AHDLI features two teams: a Design Resource Team of expert design innovators and a Development Team of six forward-thinking developers with projects in the schematic design phase. These sessions help development leaders put into action best practices in community design, transit-oriented development, and green architectural design. The theme for this year’s Institute is “Design Camp”, seeking to understand how collaboration between developers, designers, and city agencies can result in exceptional affordable housing projects.

This year’s Institute features a keynote address by Julie Eizenberg, FAIA, Founding Principal of Koning Eizenberg Architecture. Eizenberg has extensive expertise in the design of affordable, mixed-income, and market rate projects, bringing an empathetic perspective which translates seemingly mundane programs into places of ease and generosity.

AHDLI: Design Camp features participation from Detroit-based developers Amandla CDC; Nova Development Group; and Resurrection CDC; as well as The Community Builders from Boston; Hope Enterprise Corporation from Jackson, MS; and West Angeles CDC of Los Angeles.

The Affordable Housing Design Leadership Institute is made possible by generous support from the McKnight Foundation, the Kendeda Fund, and our host, the City of Detroit.
