City of Walnut Creek selects HED to design new aquatic center

Harley Ellis Devereaux, in association with Counsilman-Hunsaker (Aquatic Design Experts) and Sports Facilities Advisory and Management (Athletic Facility Operations and Management Experts), has been selected to develop a new aquatic center for the City of Walnut Creek, California.

The proposed center will replace the 40-year-old Clarke Memorial Swim Center in the heart of Heather Farm Park. The Clarke Swim Center is widely recognized for its history of training Olympic swimmers. The pool complex has been home for local swim teams, including the Aquabears, Aquanuts and Masters Programs, drawing 350,000 swimmers annually.

The replacement project is envisioned to be a multi-generational facility that will preserve and enhance the competitive program while accommodating more recreational and therapeutic activities. The consortium will first determine the best model for a new financially viable facility; identify funding partners; and then design, develop and operate the Aquatic Center on behalf of the City of Walnut Creek.
