Harley Ellis Devereaux Sponsors “Best Architecture and Engineering Design” Award

Harley Ellis Devereaux again served as a Special Award Sponsor for the Michigan Regional Future City Competition, which was held on January 30, 2012 in Novi, Michigan. A team of architects and engineers from the firm reviewed the work of all participants and selected St. John Lutheran (Rochester, MI) to receive the 2012 “Best Architecture and Engineering Design” award.

The annual Future City Competition is a national event that challenges teams of middle school students, working with a teacher and professional mentor, to design the city of the future. The program promotes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, and helps students understand and appreciate the practical aspects of a technical academic curriculum. The Michigan Regional competition is coordinated annually by The Engineering Society of Detroit.

St. John Lutheran was selected to receive the award based on criteria which included vision for the city, use and protection of natural resources, efficient energy generation, and transportation.  The school also won first prize overall, and will now go on to represent Michigan in the national Future City Competition in Washington DC.

“We were thrilled to present the ‘Best Architecture and Engineering Design’ award to St. John Lutheran School, and congratulate all participants on their achievement.” said Michael F. Cooper, Managing Principal at Harley Ellis Devereaux. “These aspiring young engineers are intelligent, creative, and poised.  They have a wonderful future ahead of them.”
